What kind of person would hang a spreadsheet on their wall?!

Art can be created in an unlimited number of ways, from the conventional sweeping of a paintbrush on a canvas to something abstract like leaving a pair of glasses in the corner of an art gallery - both artistic methods that the average 21st century office worker rarely practises.

However millions of us develop advanced skills in Microsoft Excel as part of our jobs (other spreadsheet products are available, apparently), but don’t realise that these skills can be used to create art!

How art can be made in Excel:

Step 1: Open Microsoft Excel.

Step 2: Pixels are normally square, so the cells are narrowed into squares.

Step 3: Some maths is added to link some cell values together. For example here:

CELL VALUE = CELL VALUE ON THE LEFT + 1.

Step 4: Some conditional formatting is added, which changes the colour of a cell based on the size of the number in the cell.

Step 5: At this point, the only limits are the excel-skills and creativity of the person in front of the screen.
