How is it Created?

Each pixel is a cell in an excel spreadsheet (500,000 pixels total), and behind the colour in each pixel lies a sumptuous formula linked to cells around it, with elements of randomness that ensure that each version created is unique (even if very similar, like a unique fingerprint). In fact there are more possible combinations than there are particles in the universe (can show my workings, promise).

Printed in the UK with a ready-mounted aluminium backframe, allowing the piece to hover elegantly about 1cm away from the wall.

Step 1: Pick a Colour - Available in the following colour schemes. See watermarked photos for how the alternate colour schemes look. If you want a version in a very specific colour scheme, drop me a message and we’ll work something out.

  • RED

  • BLUE

  • GREEN

  • PINK

Step 2: Pick a Size - Available in the following sizes.

  • 60cm x 30cm

  • 80cm x 40cm

  • 100cm x 50cm

  • 120cm x 60cm

Step 3: Pick a Material - Available in the following materials.

  • Picture board - Lightweight and durable, with the design printed directly onto a 5mm-thick hardfoam panel. Matte finish (non-glossy). Comes with ready-mounted aluminium backframe.

  • Acrylic Glass - Design printed and set behind a 3mm panel of clear acrylic glass. The acrylic adds depth and a gloss that makes colours look richer. Comes with ready-mounted aluminium backframe.

Step 4: Relax and Await Delivery

Each piece is uniquely generated in Microsoft Excel to order, and will be delivered to all UK mainland addresses within 1-2 weeks (delivery included in the price). Message me about other non-mainland UK or international deliveries.

NOTE the variant shown in photos is Green / 120cm x 60cm / Acrylic Glass.

Uniquely generated in Microsoft Excel to every order

But spreadsheets don’t look like this?!

According to Google, approximately 5 billion people around the world use spreadsheets in some capacity, but nobody has used it to draw. Imagine a world where most people can use a paintbrush, but nobody has used it to paint…

Do you use Microsoft Excel at work, and perhaps consider yourself quite handy at it? You could be an artist in the making.

Conditional Formatting is normally used to highlight certain cells based on rules, and these rules are usually based on what your boss wants to see… Rules with purpose.

But if conditional formatting is used to highlight certain cells for no purpose other than because it looks nice - this is the definition of art!

The spreadsheet is my canvas, the formulas are my paintbrush, and conditional formatting is my paint.

The formulas contain randomly generated numbers, ensuring that each time the spreadsheet is refreshed, the image changes slightly. The new image is actually unique, like a fingerprint. This also means that each refresh is astronomically unlikely to reoccur. In fact there are more possible refresh combinations than there are particles in the observable universe. Any item purchased is therefore unique and can never be recreated.

Designed in London, printed in the UK and shipped directly to all UK addresses. Please note that it’s not currently possible to deliver to non-UK addresses as standard, however if you’re hoping for international delivery, drop me a message and we’ll see if we can work something out.
